Quick Update on Cruelty Free Brands

For all the Canadian citizens, Quo- a Shoppers Drugmart brand is to be cruelty free. I recently called in the costumer service. I shall paraphrase,
"Mam, Quo does not test on animals, neither do any of Life products we own. We are cruelty free."
After that I asked if their products owned "animal ingredients," which they responded to me with they would need to call the factory and such, but it can be known that they are in fact cruelty-free. So, after conclusive internet searching and a personal call towards Shoppers Drugmart- it can be said that Quo products ARE cruelty free. Without that said, here is a written response of a question from Shoppers Drugmart-

Your question:
Are Life Brand products tested on animals?

Response:
In accordance with the generally recognized meaning of this term, the finished products are not tested on animals.
At present and based on current information, Shoppers Drug Mart does not actively support or commission the testing of any Life Brand product in order to establish clinical support for safety, efficacy, or allergic reactions.
This phrase does not guarantee that the individual ingredients were not tested on animals. For new ingredients, testing is sometimes essential to determine that the ingredient is safe.

In the end it is only your choice. Individual ingredients may or may not need to be tested. I'm sure they wouldn't lie about not testing their products, but be aware ingredient testing may still occur.  :-)

Essence Makeup Review!

I went to the drugstore to look for cruelty-free makeup to find Essence! On an adorable rack. This company is targeted to young teens and is very cute. The prices are very good too!
I purchased 3 eyeliners, a mascara and a 3D eyeshadow.
The first review is on the long lasting eye pencil. I purchased it in a aqua blue and a darker shade of blue. They were very soft, and as much as they last smudge they still are as spoken "Soft and long-lasting." I would suggest to get this if you wish to have a soft look, they do smudge easily so be aware! They do not need to be sharpened, as you simply twist and wala! There you go!

The second review is on their gel eyeliner pencil. I got mine in green, as it looked very beautiful and colourful. I was so surprised to see how well it stayed on! It hasn't smudged at all and is amazing. I will be getting the other colours soon.

The mascara I picked was the Get BIG! Lashes volume boost mascara. I decided to try the normal one before purchasing waterproof. I have to say I am very happy with the brush, and it is very big- what you want for mascara! I am very happy with it!

The last item I purchased was their 3D eyeshadow. I love the cream colour is so matte and the brown isn't so bright, but I enjoy it very much.

I suggest always trying out the makeup with the testers showing in their rack!

My Favourite (Cruelty Free!)Brands!

Hi! Here are my cruelty free makeup brands, with a bit of a review.

Urban Decay: Known for it's "Naked" Palletes, Urban Decay maintains high ranking yet taking care of animals. Their palletes are amazing, yet they are quite costly. Living in Canada, if you go to Sephora you will find their eyeliner at 24$ a piece! Yet they maintain high quality. Keep in mind that their parent company DOES animal test.

Physicans Formula: In Canada, I have seen Physicans Formula as a very soft yet good quality brand. They range in 6 and up dollars. They have quite the good quality.
NARS: I can't explain too much, yet Nars is a very good quality brand. It is costly, so I don't purchase from them a lot. Keep in mind the parent company DOES animal test.

Essence: Coming from Germany, this cute and fun filled makeup company is very good quality. You get the bang out of your buck. Their site gives you a trendy feel. (http://www.essence.eu/ca/home/) I recently purchased their Gel Pencil Eyeliners to find amazing quality. (Seriously. It's long lasting and ever since I applied it on today it hasn't smudged.) They are against animal testing which is great! Check them out, they have their little area in Shoppers Drug-mart in Canada. From the impressions I have been given, Essence has to be one of my "at-the-moment" favourites. I find it to be a "cute" brand aimed at the younger audience, but of course it can be for any age!

Marcelle: A very nice brand, that does not test on animals! When I was getting my BB cream, I was suggested Clinique or Marcelle. I was told it was a very good brand for the skin!

If you do have any questions, check out PETA, or download Bunny Free for your apple electronic. You can scan a barcode (Or type out the brand,) and it will tell you whether or not it tests on animals. Keep in mind not all brands are on there. Nars and Essence aren't, yet they DO NOT test on animals!

Beginning Makeup

Are you beginning makeup and need a few tips? Here is a bit of my personal experience and how it can help you. We all began with something like this,

Am I right or am I not? Ok, at least it was something like this. And let me guess- it got broken in a matter of weeks, days, or closer. I'm sure it wasn't "Oscars" makeup potential.

Either way. When beginning makeup I think the best place to go is anywhere BUT an expensive makeup place. Sure, it's good quality and all but you don't exactly know how the quality REALLY is. Trust me, with reviews and everything you can't trust the website of Maybelline. I suggest going to your local drugstore and looking around. You can play with the testers, (Just don't put them on your face!) and see what works for you. I suggest Maybelline (They DO test on animals though, I no longer purchase from them.) if you wish, but it is your call on what to do. It's your money and I can't say anything.

There is one thing, you may want to know from the near beginning if you are ok with animal tested makeup or not. It's your call- not mine. I can tell you it would suck if you spent a lot on something and figure out you can't really use it anymore. I will post a cruelty free makeup post on brands that are good and whatnot, so be out for that.

I would also suggest to start makeup wearing on a weekend. You don't want to show up Monday to school with nada and then show up with Prada on Tuesday! Plus, you may or not need practice on the weekend for eyeliner and mascara. Trust me on this one- many people were confused on what happened.

You don't need a lot of things when it comes to makeup. Now-a-days there is everything, a powder for this, a powder for that, etc. If you already own a blush you don't need another stick blush. (Personally I don't use a blush at the moment.) Start with a few basics. If you only want mascara and BB Cream, that's a way to go. Prioritize what you want! You won't need everything, trust me. If you are starting out I suggest the basics. Youtube videos always show what is up. Check out 20$ Challanges as they show how you don't need everything! Here is Michelle Phan's video on her $20 challenge! I love her so much as she knows the tricks, etc.

These are a few of my tips. Enjoy your wonderful journey on makeup! It is a way to express yourself and a big step. Good luck!
